New England Northwest community housing provider Homes North is on the lookout for two new members to join their board.

Homes North is looking for “culturally aligned, strategic thinkers with commercial and housing experience”, with strong ties to the local community to join the leadership of this critically important social service provider in the New England.

They are particularly encouraging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to apply, as part of their commitment to increase Indigenous involvement in the organisation’s governance.

The role is part-time and on-site in Tamworth, but exceptions could be made for the right applicant to attend remotely.

A company director’s qualification, or a willingness to obtain one, is essential, and the applicant must be committed to Homes North’s goal of “creating secure, affordable and sensitively managed housing opportunities for low-income households, regardless of race, creed, colour, gender or sexual orientation.”

The not-for-profit provided nearly three thousand affordable homes to people in the region, and nearly 2000 temporary accommodation placements during 2022-2023, as well as assisting over eight hundred low-income households in finding accommodation in the private rental sector, according to their annual report

The need for community housing in regional areas has increased significantly with the housing crisis, triggered by the job losses, rising prices, and exodus from the cities during COVID, with hundreds of former city-dwellers now working from home and looking for less expensive places to live, displacing many locals.
