Several years of roads funding for Armidale Regional Council has been brought forward to allow urgent repairs to done sooner.
Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall announced a $4,728,427 in funding with Armidale Regional Council Deputy Mayor Todd Redwood on Armidale’s Markham Street, a stretch of road that will benefit from the funding boost.
He said the grant would help council bring forward a number of critical projects in its rolling roadworks program.
“This is wonderful news for council and the community, allowing more important local roads to be brought up to scratch and upgraded, enhancing safety for all motorists and road users,” Mr Marshall said.
“Council has been playing repair catch up on many roads around the region in recent times and today’s extra funding will mean they can undertake some major work to rebuild roads and do more gravel resheeting.
“The cash will not only help take some financial pressure off council, but as council has complete discretion where to spend the funds, it’s going to be spent where it’s needed most.”
Armidale Regional Council Deputy Mayor Todd Redwood welcomed the funding and said council appreciated the support from the State Government.
“Our already compromised road network was seriously impacted by the severe weather events over the past few years,” Cr Redwood said.
“The funding, albeit several years of annual future allocation compounded into one, is welcomed and will assist us to urgently repair damage to some of the 1,850 kilometres of our total road network.”
Council received the funding under the Regional Emergency Road Repair Fund with funding allocated based on the size of their local road network.
