NAIDOC Week 2023 is here, with events running across the region from July 2-9, celebrating this year’s theme ‘For our Elders’.

If you are looking to get involved or for something to do in your town, check out what is happening below:

ARMIDALE

Monday July 3rd: 10am flag raising ceremony on the Oorala lawns featured at the University of New England

Tuesday July 4th: Guyra Preschool and Long Day Care Centre will host an event from 10am – 1130am, with various games and activities planned, and a BBQ lunch

Wednesday July 5th: Flag Raising ceremony and soup lunch at the Armidale Regional Council Administration building, 135 Rusden Street from 11am

Thursday July 6th: morning tea at the Community Support Hub located at 246-248 Beardy Street Armidale, from  11am

GLEN INNES

Friday July 7th: NAIDOC Street March at 10am starting at the GILALC office at 181 Lang Street

Saturday July 8th: NAIDOC Elders Ball- all tickets must be purchased at the GILALC office at 181 Lang Street as there will be no tickets sold at the door on the night

GUNNEDAH

Sunday July 2nd: Community Fun Day starting at 6am Cultural Run, 8:30am Smoking ceremony, 9am breakfast, 10:30am NAIDOC March from Wolseley Oval and 11am official ceremonies, closes at 2pm *live music from Buddy Knox

Monday July 3rd: Gunnedah Hospital Flag Raising and morning tea at 9:30am

Tuesday July 4th: High Tea 10am to 12pm at Red Chief LALC Hall & 1pm to 5pm Elders Lunch at Smithurst Theatre

Wednesday July 5th: Community BBQ at 12pm & 6pm to 9pm Euchre Card Night at Red Chief Lands Council

Thursday July 6th: 10am to 12pm Smoking Ceremony and morning tea an Gunnedah Community College & 3pm NAIDOC movie ‘We are still here’ at Gunnedah Civic Centre

Friday July 7th: NAIDOC Art Opening at Gunnedah Civic Centre & from 5pm to 7pm Primary School Disco, 7pm to 11pm High School Disco at PCYC

Saturday July 8th: Karaoke Curry Night from 5pm to 8pm at Gunnedah Public School

INVERELL

Sunday July 2nd: Danthonia Luncheon- 10am NAIDOC Church Services, 12pm Lunch

Monday July 3rd: Inverell NAIDOC Event- 9:45am NAIDOC March, 10:30am Official Ceremony at Victoria Park, 11am Morning Tea

Tuesday July 4th: Tingha NAIDOC Event- 9am Street March, 9:30am Welcome Ceremony, 9:45 Free morning tea and Art Exhibition opening

Wednesday July 5th: Elders Morning Tea- 10:30am at the Linking Together Centre, booking essential

Thursday July 6th: Community Health- 10am Inverell Community Health Swanbrook Rd, Inverell

Friday July 7th: Elders Olympics- 9am to 2pm at Inverell Sporting Complex

MOREE

Sunday July 2nd: 9am to 12pm Art Opening at Jellicoe Park & 10:30am to 12:30pm 

Monday July 3rd: Commencement March starting from Dhliyaan Aboriginal Centre & 12:45pm to 3pm Community Gathering Day at Rocket Park

Tuesday July 4th: 11am to 2pm Tik Tok Challenge at SHAE Academy, 11:30am to 1:30pm BBQ Lunch at Moree Hospital, 4pm to late Elders evening under the star at SHAE Academy

Wednesday July 5th: Cultural Day from 10am to 2pm at SHAE Academy

Thursday July 6th: Elder Bingo from 10:30am to 12pm at SHAE Academy, Glow Theme Disco at SHAE Academy from 6pm to 9pm

Friday July 7th: NAIDOC Gold Day 8am to 1pm at Moree Golf Club, Movie Day from 9:30am to 3:30pm at PCYC, Elder NAIDOC BALL from 5pm till late at Moree Services Club

Saturday July 8th: Pool Comp Disco from 11am till late at Victoria Hotel

Sunday July 9th: NAIDOC Week Snooker at 9am at Moree Services club & NAIDOC Week closing service at Moree Anglican Church from 4pm to 5pm

Friday July 14th: NAIDOC FAMILY DAY at Amaroo Tavern from 11am to 4pm

NARRABRI

Tuesday July 4th: Flag Raising ceremony at 11am

Friday July 14th: NAIDOC Ball from 5pm at Club Narrabri, tickets requires and 18 and over event

Every day: Art Exhibition at Tamworth Regional Gallery 

Sunday July 2nd: 10:30am NAIDOC Week Opening Event at Tamworth Lookout

Monday July 3rd: 10:30am Tamworth Hospital Flag Raising and Brunch, 10am to 1:30pm Legacy Torch Relay, 4pm Pool of Reflection Waler Memorial

Tuesday July 4th: 10am to 2pm Elders Playground City Library for Children aged 0-5 and Elders, 11am Touch Day at the Youthie

Wednesday July 5th: 9am Cultural Burn at Locks Lane

Thursday July 6th: Elders Long Lunch 10am 3pm at Mercure Events Centre

Friday July 7th:  NAIDOC March at 10am at Viaduct Park, 11am to 2pm Family Fun Day at Bicentennial Park, 4:30pm Mungo- Red Carpet Premier at UNE Building on Fitzroy Street
