Boomi’s Recreation Ground will soon have a brand new shower and toilet block, following the announcement today of a $229,841 grant from the State Government to replace the existing ageing amenities.
Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall was on hand to meet with local community members and deliver the good news, which he said had been long anticipated.
“Replacing the old and decrepit amenities block has long been a priority for the volunteer recreation ground trustees, but it’s an expensive job and well beyond the finances they have on hand,” Mr Marshall said.
“With this grant now secured, the 50-year-old facility can be scrapped and a brand new toilet and shower block constructed in its place, much to the delight of all ground users and spectators.
“There existing facility has long passed its used by date with significant ground movement over the decades cracking pipes which leak when in use.
“It’s brilliant to see investment like this in some of our small rural communities and in Boomi’s case, will build upon the success of the new main meal hall, pavilion and kitchen facilities which were the result of a previous State Government funding.
“The new block will make a huge difference to the experience of everyone using the recreation ground, especially for big events.”
Boomi Recreation Ground Manager John Oates said he was delighted to receive the funding to tick another big project off the list for the ground.
“We’ve been wanting to get a new amenities block for a long time now, but due to other projects and a lack of funds, we’ve just been continually patching the old one up,” Mr Oates said.
“This money is really good news and will allow us to purchase a prefabricated toilet and shower block, fix it in place on piers and upgrade the water supply to the block as well.
“Everyone who uses the ground, especially the campdrafters, will be relieved to see our new amenities block.”
